Frequently Asked Questions

Is everything vegan?

Yes! Everything in the restaurant and the truck is 100% vegan, including all of our drinks. This means we don't use or store any meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy or other animal by-products, such as honey. Even though the menu may say 'Steak,' it is describing our plant-based alternative.  We also only provide plant-based milks: Oat, Coconut, Almond & Soy.

Where is the restaurant?

Occasionally, Maps can take you to the wrong end of Compton Street so we recommending putting 'The Grand Pharmacy' into your map as we are right next door to them. The Good Grub is underneath The Grand Hotel at the back on Compton Street. We are one road away from the seafront, opposite the Western Lawns.

Do  you need to book?

The Good Grub is only a small restaurant with 8 tables inside, so we highly recommend booking a table. We do accept walkins, but please be prepareed to wait for a table or to be added to our virtual queuing system.

Are you gluten-free?

Though the restaurant is not a gluten-free restaurant, we do have a number of gluten-free options available on the menu. We try our hardest to cater for all allergens in both the truck and the restaurant, however both only have very small kitchens so we cannot guarantee there won't be any cross-contamination.

Is the restaurant accessible?

The restaurant is level to the pavement and we absolutely can accomodate wheelchairs. However, we do ask or you to let us know beforehand as we are only a small restaurant so may have to shuffle tables around or arrange a time when it is likely to be quieter. Unfortunately the building is very old so the only toilet is down some very steep stairs. Staff are more than happy to assist you but none of the shops on the street have an alternative upstairs toilet. There are is also some uneven pavement from tree roots outside the restaurant, but again we are more than happy to assist you.

What drinks do you serve?

Our full drinks menu is on our menu page. We serve hot and cold drinks all day but unfortuantely do not currently have the facilities for decaf coffee at the moment. We have a full licensed bar with beer, wine, cider and cocktails from 12pm-11pm Wednesday through to Saturday, and 12pm-4pm on Sundays.

What are your kitchen opening hours?

Please note that our kitchen closes an hour before the restaurant does. This is so we have time to pack down and clean the kitchen properly before we close the restaurant completely. You can still order drinks up to closing time. Our kitchen and bar are both open from 10am.

Is service included?

We do include an optional 12.5% service charge to add food bills in the restaurant. The Good Grub Girls work incredibly hard to provide you with the best service and a relaxing atmosphere. Service is distributed to each member of staff working at the end of the day, including kitchen and bar staff.
